SOAR Café & Farms is a non-profit in Jackson, Michigan. SOAR exists to provide healing, housing, and employment for women survivors of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and trauma. We are following the model of Thistle Farms as a sister organization in the Thistle National Network.
The vision for SOAR was given to Founder Michelle Cochran in 2016. As she continued to learn more about the realities of incarceration, addiction, and trafficking, the urgency grew. Michelle visited Thistle Farms in Nashville, TN and “felt like I needed to fasten my seatbelt. I knew SOAR was real and was happening.” She shared her vision with friends and like-minded community members through a series of informational meetings, and gathered passionate Board Members and Committee Members. The first official Board meeting was May 2nd, 2017. We are an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
We recently purchased a home for our Residential Program and are fundraising in order to restore the home, as well as searching for a site for the SOAR Café. We are eager to see our vision come to life–to see Survivors living in the SOAR House and working in the SOAR Café while accessing needed physical and mental health care. While we lay the framework, we are honored to connect with and serve women who are currently incarcerated through SOAR – On the Inside and in the community through our SOAR Support Community Groups.
We believe that love is the most powerful force for change in the world. In a city historically known as “Prison City,” we want to uplift & empower women, with love, to live in freedom.
